no basically, you can do whatever you want with material from certain sites on arcania. you may figure out how to somehow make money off of them. you may incorporate them into your projects. you do not have to pay, but it is always nice to get word of or even gifts from those who benefit from your work. please do not make anything too bad.

creative commons is an idea of lawrence lessig's which was formed in response to the increasingly restrictive interpretation of copyright in the united states. after losing eldred v. ashcroft, setting his own cause back he decided to take positive steps with attempted international implication. as a practical matter, creative commons allows an international way to give away one's work in a way which is increasingly being recognized as such. other licenses were considered, but each had particulars about them. the free art license is limited by being governed by the laws of france. gnu licenses insist upon the sharing-alike of license, whereas no such demand is made of the use of arcana which is being made available. public domain dedication seems to only hold for the united states.

the least restrictive creative commons license available is utilized for those sites on arcania which are intended to be free. this license still offers more protection that is more than desired.

the idea of free culture is rightfully celebrated.
the execution of free culture by the commoners, though, tends to leave a lot to be desired. indeed, most people donate to the creative commons do not care about the quality of the work that they put into the non-copyright pot. instead, they tend to be more interested about "getting their name out there" for free, so that they can maybe charge something later.
the stuff on the arcania, though, truly is never going to have commercial potential. no one who has any taste would comment
